I grew up in Rwanda and have now lived in the United States of America for 4 years. I loved growing produce in Rwanda, but years of war displaced me. In 2012 and 2013, I worked at Wabi Sabi Farm, where I learned more about how to grow produce in a climate that is so different from Rwanda. I am now a farmer at Global Greens Farm and am excited to share my great tasting, beautiful produce with you.
There are currently 25 families of farmers from Bhutan, Burma, Burundi and Rwanda farming at Lutheran Services in Iowa’s Global Greens Farm. Global Greens Farm is a four acre incubator farm located in West Des Moines, and all produce grown there is Certified Naturally Grown. Global Greens provides individuals who immigrated as refugees the opportunity to reconnect to the land through farming. The program provides three to five years of land use, marketing assistance and farming advice to the farmers on their way to becoming independent business owners. Angelique is in her second year of the Global Greens program.

All produce is Certified Naturally Grown. Global Greens Farm represents a fusion of modern technology with old world farming practices (aka lots of human power). Aside from the initial tilling of the land in April, all farming is done by hand.
