Our century farm near Waukee was established in 1890. We began, as did most farms, as a highly diversified family operation and over time came to raise only corn and soybeans. We are currently in the process of reestablishing a more diversified approach to our farm with an emphasis on human food production - both meat and vegetable - using minimal (if any) chemical-based inputs. Our goal is to provide humanely grown, highly nutritious, locally produced food in a sustainable fashion.

Practices (our standards for raising or making our products)
We use an intensive crop rotation plan including the use of cover crops, companion plantings, organic mulching (heavy straw), regular fallowing,and trap cropping to eliminate the use of chemical fertilizers and pest controls. We regularly plant permanent beds for attracting pollinizing/beneficial organisms and are in the early stages of incorporating livestock in the crop rotation plan.
