Gourmet culinary mushrooms, both cultivated and wild foraged. About Us Bee Grateful Gardens is a small family farm dedicated to producing the highest quality gourmet culinary mushrooms available week in and week out. I also am an avid beekeeper and my apiary sits among 100 acres of restored prairie and the bees are treated with as naturalistic approach as possible while still maintaining the hives for human use. My mushrooms are grown from start to finish with my own two hands. I use no chemicals or synthetic fertilizers, in fact my mushrooms largely grow on sawdust, much of which is reclaimed from a local sawmill who specializes in urban forestry, turning old trees needing removal into live edge slabs for furniture. My mushrooms are grown in a specialized, dedicated environment that was built specifically to create the most ideal environment for mushrooms to grow. This means special attention and care is placed on cleanliness from the physical space they are grown, air quality, and substrates they are grown on in order to isolate them from competitors and let them thrive to their full potential. Many of the strains I grow were isolated from samples I foraged locally in Iowa and cloned on Petri dishes, giving yet another aspect that ties them back to being as local as possible. I have been foraging mushrooms since I was a boy but only began cultivating them about three years ago. Mushrooms have always been a fascination of mine and the excitement of hunting them has sparked into a passion of creating them to share with others. This goes from selection of resources and substrates all the way to how I handle, package and store the finished product. I am not certified organic, but I use no chemicals at any stage of growth of my mushrooms. I choose locally sourced resources and when available sustainable and organic options. I like to run a tight ship, keeping things clean and orderly as this is crucial in the healthy growth and development of cultivated mushrooms. Highlights this Month na |

This mushroom reigns king in the oyster family with its large stature and firm, crisp texture. King Oysters consist primarily of a large, meaty stem with less of a traditional mushroom cap, and as such are well-suited for slicing and cooking. It is often cut across the stem into circles resembling scallops or can be sliced thinly lengthwise and pan fried into strips resembling bacon.

Indoor cultivated oyster mushrooms grown on sawdust blocks. My mushrooms never have contact with any synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides or any other nasty practices. They grow on agricultural bi-products such as sawdust, straw, wheat bran, alfalfa and soybean hulls. The only mushroom more natural would be the ones you find foraging in the woods.
