Product Types: Artisan Breads and ample single serving brownies, cookies, bars, cupcakes, muffins, scones, etc. About Us Our business began in 1996 as the Utility Shop which was founded on our 7-Grain Bread recipe. It utilized an organic mix of grains grown just down the road from us and was distributed to folks in Grinnell with mother Whitney at the helm and daughters Erika & Ariel in-tow in their little red wagon. The Utility Shop breads and baked goods could be found at Grinnell & other Central Iowa Farmers' Markets as well as Saints Rest Coffee House over a ten year period until Whitney moved onto work for the State of Iowa as the DNR's Trails Coordinator and then to Nashville as the State DOT's Bicycle & Pedestrian Coordinator. Erika & Ariel went to colleges in Kalamazoo, MI and Appleton, WI respectively and then onto professional work. We missed one another and longed to strike a life/work balance between our many passions (including bakery).Hence we formed a partnership in 2020 under a new name employing similar philosophies, practices, and recipes. We are Bread Tree Baking Co. LLC. Our bakery selections continually expand as we explore baking together with input from loyal customers. Bread Tree starter is used in many of our recipes which gives our bread its signature texture, flavor,and outstanding 'toastability'! Practices (our standards for raising or making our products) We source our organic eggs, grains, and spices locally. We have a strong interest and background in farmers markets, family farming, conscious & conscientious eating, natural resource management, and sustainability. We also have discerning taste and wouldn't knowingly sell any product for which we ourselves wouldn't be excited. Our breads freeze and reheat/toast so well that often we prefer them thus!
