Describe your farming, processing and/or crafting practices. (if applicable) | All birds are outdoors birds on grass. An all grain feed consisting of locally grown corn, soy meal with added vitamins, minerals, but NO ANTIBIOTICS and NO HORMONES, is fed along with vitamins, electrolytes and mineral in the water.All birds are processed at an OFFICIAL (By Iowa State Law for commercially sold chickens). They are then double bagged for improved freezer storage.I have 7 commercial freezer where the birds are frozen after processing.To bring my birds home to my freezer building from the processing plant (1 hr 45 min away) they are packed with ice in two frezer boxes on my pickup. |
Describe your pest and disease management system. (if applicable) | The bird are raised using an all in/all out system. The rooms are high pressure washed after each batch of chickens are sold. After cleaning, the rooms, as well as the feeders and waterers, are disinfected. |

The broilers are raised the former dairy barn. It provides two spacious rooms and two smaller starter rooms that are comfortable in the summer heat due to the insulative quality of the mow overhead. At three weeks of age the chickens are fed outdoors on a concrete pad, and the weeds are allowed to grow, which becomes their \'forest\'giving them additional shade and food: bug/weeds as their meat/veggies.The former cattle shed has two rooms, one of which houses the ducks/geese. The egglayers are housed in the other room of the cattle shed and in a chicken house.As mentioned above no antibiotics or hormones are fed to my birds. |

The boilers are fed once a day with the intention that they fast for 12 hours. Water is always available. |

My sweet corn is fertilized with the chicken manure. No insecticides are used. A herbicide is laid down on the soil prior to planting. No chemical is sprayed on the palnts. |

All of my crops are dependent exclusively on rain water and the weather. My well water is analyzed each year and made sure it has zero bacteria. |

In the year 2000, when the family farm became a century farm,I planted 10 of the best acres to local ecotype native prairie consisting of about 138 different plant species.I also no till all of my crops except the acres (2 acres)on which I apply the chicken manure for the sweet corn. I also maintain and established a grove of 1 acre. On my other farm I also no till my crops and maintain approximately 35 acres of rough ground(of which approximately 15 are wooded): no crops and no livestock, just simply habitat. This means it is non income producing. |

I raise Muscovy ducks along with my Pekins. You cannot buy Muscovies from a hatchery, as they are too difficult to incubate. They are a much sought after bird by my customers. |
