List what you intend to sell. (if applicable) (e.g. meats, grains, jellies, crafts; also note if you have any heritage breeds) |
|
Describe your farming, processing and/or crafting practices. (if applicable) | We are an All-Natural Ranch that doesn't use any routine antibiotics or Growth hormones. We raise beef naturally, the way that God intended it to be on the rolling hills of southern Iowa. |
Describe your pest and disease management system. (if applicable) | none |
Describe your herd health and productivity management. (if applicable) (i.e. do you use any hormones, antibiotics, and/or steroids) |
We calve all of our beef cows on our pastures. We do have a wonderful barn in case of inclement weather to house all of our animals. All of our cattle always have access to all of the hay or grass that they desire, with more than 4 times the adequate room to move & roam. We rotationally graze our pastures & stockpile grass for our cows to eat in the winter. We do vaccinate our herd due to our neighbors & high deer population that can bring diseases onto our farm. |
Describe your feeding practices. (if applicable) (grass-fed only, free-range, feed-lot, etc.) |
We have 3 very distinct & separate groups of cattle. All of our cattle have plenty of room to grow & forage through their entire life. Our Pastured beef is offered small amounts (less than 1% of their body weight) of grain each day, while foraging on fresh pastures or hay. Our Corn Finished Beef is raised with our Pastured Beef until the last 3 months(Deep winter months), when they are in a separate pen & offered free access to grains & hay. Our 100% Grass-Fed Beef is NEVER offered ANY grains! They are born in the fall & harvested late the following fall. |
Describe your soil and nutrient management. (if applicable) (Do you compost, use fertilizers, green manures or animal manures?) |
We use only our animals & their manure to improve our soil fertility. |
Describe your water usage practices. (if applicable) (If you irrigate, describe how - e.g. deep well, surface water, etc., and explain how you conserve water or use best management practices. Describe how you are protecting your water source from contamination/erosion). |
|
Describe your conservation/land stewardship practices. (if applicable) (e.g., do you plant windbreaks, maintain grass waterways, riparian buffers, use green manures for wind erosion, plant habitats for birds, improve soil quality, etc.) |
Ww are allwas the most concerned about keeping our soil secure. This is why we are a ranch, meaning we don't till our land. We also have lots of trees intact& are improving our living windbreaks. We have abundant deer, wild turkeys & other wildlife living on our ranch. |
Describe any additional information and/or sustainable practices about your operation that
would be helpful to a potential customer in understanding your farm or operation better. (e.g. if you are raising any heritage animals you might list breeds or list varieties of heirloom seeds. List the percentage of local ingredients in your processed items). |
We love all of our animals the entire time we have them. We believe that we should respect the animal & use all of the possible products from each animal. |
List your food liability insurance coverage, both general and product-related, as well as any licenses and tests that you have available. (if applicable) | We use the Milo Locker & have them harvest & store all of our products. They are state inspected. |
