Corriente beef, lean, healthy, low fat, low cholesterol,98 % grass fed About Us We are a family owned and operated cow/calf operation (meaning our cows deliver calves and we raise those for beef and to supplement our herd). There are three generations of us living on the ranch. We are a member of the North American Corriente Association’s Certified Corriente Beef program. Visit our website at www.yokesranch.com We raise Corriente cattle, a breed we’ve come to appreciate very much - if we couldn’t have Corriente cattle we would not have any cattle at all! Nothing is more important to us than the health and well-being of our animals. We believe that if we take care of them, they will take care of us. We use no hormones, steroids or indiscriminate antibiotics. Any feed other than grass or hay that we use is all natural. We use our Corriente cattle for team roping and steer wrestling practice, in addition to beef production. About Corriente Cattle: Corrientes are the first heritage breed brought to the Americas. They can be traced back to the Spanish Conquistadores who brought them to new world in 1493. Corrientes are a relatively small breed, with a mature cow weighing about 900lbs (many commodity-production cows reach 1200-2000 lbs or more). They are very athletic and hearty, and also very versatile due to their good disposition. Corriente beef is very lean, low fat and low cholesterol relative to many other beef breeds. See below for more nutritional information Why We Raise Corriente Cattle: Healthy, robust animals: We believe in the old adage that you are what you eat. The cattle are naturally athletic and active and they get a lot of exercise, making them a good healthy choice. We believe that the healthy, athletic cattle are much better for you than sedentary “couch potato” cattle. Flavor: The lean low-fat beef has a very good flavor and remarkable tenderness, reminiscent of older breeds that many people remember fondly from their younger days. Nutrition: The beef is lower in cholesterol, fat and calories than salmon, pork and “modern” beef products. Environment: Corriente cattle are smaller than many modern breeds, causing less impact on the soil as they graze and walk in waterways. They also feed in a manner that is easier on the vegetation, favoring weeds over bunch grasses in a manner more like goats than modern commodity cattle. Browse through our Products for Sale Practices (our standards for raising or making our products) We are a grass-based, free range operation. This means our cattle are free to come and go, with no confinement for feeding. That is important for both the animals and the environment! The whole ranch is seeded down to either pasture or hay ground. We raise no crops except cattle and hay. The cows run on pastures divided into paddocks and are rotated through those all year long. All of the calf pens have access to pasture most of the time. They are supplemented with enough feed to keep them healthy and satisfied. We consider our animals to be at least 98% grass-fed. Due to their small size and slow growing rate, we wait until the cattle are about four years old before we harvest them. During their early years they may live off our property for some period of time. They are, however, born on the ranch and reside there for at least 2/3 of their lives. We don't use any hormones or steroids and only use antibiotics on an individual basis to maintain the health of our animals. The sum of all these practices means that our land carries a smaller commercial fertilizer and chemical load than traditional feedlot beef operations. Additional Information Here is some nutrition information about Corriente cattle that we found interesting and exciting. Four ounces of Corriente beef was sent for analysis by BodyCote, Inc., a food science lab. The information below is based on those results in comparison to other 4 oz. samples of meat data from the USDA National Nutrient Database. On a nutritional level, Corriente beef surpasses the competition!
