All birds are outdoors birds on grassed areas in season. All grain consists of locally grown corn, soy meal with added vitamins, minerals, but NO ANTIBIOTICS and NO HORMONEs. In certain instances vitamins, electrolytes and minerals are added also in the water. All birds are processed at an OFFICIAL (By Iowa State Law for commercially sold chickens). They are then double bagged for improved freezer storage.I have 7 commercial freezer where the birds are frozen after processing.To bring my birds home to my freezer building from the processing plant they are packed in ice in two freezer boxes on my pickup.
I also raise Muscovy ducks and the traditional bronze turkey. The Muscovy is a much sought after duck for its superior flavor, the large size of the drakes. It is a yellow skin/yellow fat bird. I hatch out my own ducklings. These birds prefer to eat insects and weed seed, but supplement their diet with shell corn, especially in the colder off season. These birds are one hearty bird as they roam the place and many will spend the night outside even in winter. In the warmer part of the year they bed down around my border collie x ausie shepherd dog Rudy. He is their protector. (And no, he does not bother my poultry.)
AS for my turkeys, my customers like the slightly darker meat and more flavored meat over the commercial white birds. These birds dress in the 14lb to 22lb range.
