We got started about 35-40 years ago by my parents, Winton and Dorothy Etchen starting Iowa Orchard. At the time, they rented orchards that have been absorbed many years ago on Grand Ave and Hickman Rd. Then they planted our current location on Meredith Drive. I joined my father upon graduation from ISU in 1991. I took over operations around 1998 with my Dad's watchful eye. In 2000 we planted a 5000 dwarf tree high density orchard on hwy 141 (7miles from our Meredith Dr location). In spring of 2011, i planted 3500 more trees and we will plant 2000 more this spring. We are known for apples, but we also grow tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, raspberries(black, red, purple), blackberries, tart cherries, and pears. On the value-added side, everyone knows about our freshly pressed(non-pasteurized) cider, sweet apple butter, and our vast selection of handmade, flaky pies(17 to choose from). In the future, we are looking at growing strawberries, table grapes, wine grapes, and blueberries. We are only expanding our growing, baking, processing, and operations every year.

We use apple cider as our liquid in apple butter. All our pies are made with real fruit, nothing canned and contain 0% preservatives.
Practices (our standards for raising or making our products)
We are IPM growers, which means we are not organic, but at the same time we spray as little as possible.
This is a great forum for supporting your local farmers and orchardists.
Highlights this Month
Our apples are storing great, but some varieties will run out thru the winter. We should have most varieties AT LEAST until March.
