During the ordering period, members shop by placing products in their shopping cart. Once a product is in your cart, it stays there until the order cycle closes unless you remove it. When the cart closes, you have committed to paying for those items. There are no minimums or requirements to order; order only what you want, when you want!

When the cart closes the producer gets a list of everything that was ordered that cycle and brings it to our Des Moines location the day before or morning of distribution. Since we only receive what was ordered we don’t have excess food to throw away.

Not exactly! We’re an online farmers’ market. We have no minimum order – you don’t even need to order every cycle. You also have the ability to buy local foods from multiple different producers.

 

Shopping with the co-op is more flexible and has more options than a CSA.

Yes! Most of our product selection is online, but we also offer a variety of local products at our storefront. Members and non-members welcome!

No, sorry! Local food delivery is only available in Des Moines. Maybe one of Iowa’s other food hubs is closer to you.

You may pick up on a following day during our storefront hours at our Franklin location. Please contact us at info@iowafood.coop if you are fully unable to pick up your order.

Your $50 membership fee may be redeemed if you decide to leave the co-op.

No, a cooperative is for-profit by definition; however, we aren’t getting rich by selling local foods.

PAYment types, etc

We accept EBT and waive membership + co-op fees for all EBT members. Choose ‘EBT’ under ‘Membership Type’ when filling out your membership form.

You can pay online using Paypal, or pay at time of pick-up using check or cash. We also take credit/debit cards at our Franklin location.

A 15% cooperative fee is added to all orders. This helps keep the lights on and pay for administrative expenses and equipment.

Distribution occurs on distribution Fridays from Noon – 7 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM – 2 PM.

The cost is a $5.00 flat fee plus $1.00 per mile. The coop fee is charged on the mileage but not on the base fee. Mileage is calculated to the nearest 1/10th of a mile one-way from 4944 Franklin to your delivery address.
