New items to add to your shopping list:


Red Barn Produce (from Dexter) has gourmet radishes for you radish lovers, including daikon, red, and red meat; these pair well with their assortment of fresh greens, from arugula to kale.

The Kiowa House of Herbs (from Searsboro) added some new soups (think warm as it gets cold) to go along with their wide variety of jam/jellies, breads, pies, and teas.

From Amber with Good Shepard Grass Farms (from Monroe): “We added “Beef Breakfast Sausage” for the first time.  It is free of nitrates/nitrates and preservatives.  It’s $8.95/lb. From our 100% grass fed cattle.”

Griffieon Farm (from Ankeny) added two new holiday-table-worthy roasts – Boneless Beef Rib Roast and Beef Standing Rib Roast (which LaVon says are “tasty high-end roasts”).

From Bob of Country View Dairy (from Hawkeye):  MEMBER SPECIAL: ALL GREEK YOGURT ON SALE THROUGH NOVEMBER, TIME TO STOCK UP!

From Julie of Zaza’s Pasta (from IA City): “Just added Butternut Squash & Sage Fettuccine, which is my all-time favorite pasta. Pumpkin Fettuccine is still available for a short while yet, too.”

Heritage Hill Farm (from Ames) added bags of mixed gourds perfect for your Fall tablescapes or decorating.

Raccoon Forks Farm (from Redfield) added arugula and onions and New Pioneer Farm (from Carlisle) added Braeburn, Fuji, and Red Delicious apples by the half bushel.

Yoke S. Ranch (from Russell) has a sale on Corriente stew meat at $5/lb–perfect timing for soup and stew season is here.

Chris’ Custom Bakery (from Ankeny) has Thanksgiving shapes for their cut-out sugar cookies; don’t forget to add a loaf of pumpkin or cranberry bread too!

Special K Ranch (from Chariton) listed a few new Texas Longhorn roasts and fillets in time for special holiday dinners.

Wilted Leaf Farm (from Des Moines) added red butterhead lettuce, green buttercrunch lettuce, and mustard greens to go with their other assortment of veggies including bunched carrots.

Wagner Enterprises (from Dallas Center) listed a new kind of gluten-free bread along with their usual array of Iowa baked goods (from angel food cake to fruit pies).

Great River Maple (from Garnavillo) has some special gift items (it’s not too early to start shopping) including a gift basket and maple syrup in decorative maple leaf bottles.

Broadhorn Farm (from near Truro) is back! Julie says, ‘After a good farmer’s market season, we are back and have (NEW) Tri-tip steak, Flanken style ribs and Petite Shoulder Tenders. We’re looking forward to working with you all again.’

Lee’s Green’s (from Nevada): “We’ve listed leaf lettuce mix, spinach, arugula, Swiss chard, baby green and red kale, mixed red and white potatoes, sweet potatoes, radishes, sweet baby white turnips, acorn squash, butternut squash, giant pink banana squash…….(the list goes on) – Check out their assortment here.

7 Pines Farm (from Maxwell) listed a wide array of Certified Organic produce including lettuce mixes, mesclun salad mix, spinach, and radishes.

Purrfect Muttchies (from Truro) continues to amaze with their pet treats; new flavors include: Moochin’ Mutt Macaroon, Rompin’ Rascal Pumpkin Rounds, and Scentsurrific Ginger Smackin’ Snaps.

 

IFC Distribution Today (Tomorrow in Ames)!

This is being sent via email to everyone who ordered this cycle and has products to be picked up. Today is distribution at our Des Moines area sites (except West Des Moines) and Osceola, and tomorrow is distribution in Ames. We have an alternative pick up time on Saturday from 10:30 am to noon at our Franklin Plaza site. If you need to pick up on Saturday and haven’t told us already, please let us know with a call to 515-450-6812.

Pick-up is Thursday

We had 196 members order 2,322 items this cycle. Total purchases were just under $15,000. The same cycle last year had purchases of just over $10,452. That’s just a bit over 40% growth in same-cycle sales from last fall. Nice, and thanks for your orders.

The Kiowa House of Herbs (from Searsboro) has their food processing plant license, so they’ve added a wide array of new products: six kinds of bread, seven kinds of pie (including parsnips and sweet potato), twelve kinds of jam/jellies, and seven kinds of soup. Amazing! 

The Threshing Floor (from Dallas Center) is back this cycle. Becky notes that they’ll be listed only the second cycle in Oct., Nov., and Dec., so please plan accordingly. Also, she’s added cornmeal dinner rolls made from organic cornmeal from Early Morning Harvest (delicious with soup).

Donna of Wagner Enterprises (from Dallas Center) notes: “I’ve listed some new products: Gluten-free sugar cookies, gluten-free sandwich bread, and gluten-free one-crust special order pies. I can do any kind of pie gluten-free just with one crust and crumbs on the top.”

7 Pines Farm (from Maxwell) has many new items you including marinara sauce in 16 oz tubs and a wide range of pork cuts from their pasture-raised Berkshire/Yorkshire crossbred hogs.

Heart of Iowa Soapworks (from Gilbert) is listing soaps for the last time. Stock up while you can! Her business is being sold, but she is going to maintain her membership because she loves the co-op.

Ebersole Cattle Co. (from Kellerton) added inventory to their famous extra-lean grassfed beef back including a new product: summer sausage.

WW Homestead Dairy (from Waukon) added limited quantities of salted butter, but they are out of unsalted butter. They have a full set of their incredible milks available in both half and whole gallon sizes.

Timber Ridge Cattle Co. (from Osceola) added peppered jerky, jalapeno summer sausage, and spicy ‘Hot Brats’ from their Swabian-cross hogs (which according to Pete are great in pasta and stir-fry dishes.

Anna’s Place Poultry (from Grimes) added free-range turkeys just in time for the holidays–order now to ensure your turkey ultra-fresh and from a local farmer!

Great River Maple (from Garnavillo) added Grade B maple syrup in limited quantities; Grade B is a darker syrup from later in the season, It’s a treat for those who know its butter-rich flavor.

Country View Dairy (from Hawkeye) has their 6 oz cases and 3 lb tubs of Greek blackberry custard yogurts on sale this cycle – this is a new variety that has gotten great reviews from people who’ve tried it.

From Mike of Salama Greenhouse (from Boone): “Our 2nd crop of orchids are blooming again, so I added them to our spinach, swiss chard, kale, and tomato offerings.” A perfect way to bring some cheer in during the colder months.

Global Greens farmers with new stuff: Jacqueline Ndabazaniye (Dry ‘Tongue of Fire’ beans), Simon Bucumi (Rutabaga), and Etiene Hacimana (Kennebec potatoes, red onion).

Purrfect Muttchies (from Truro) “I updated all the recipes with the new flour, which is Wheat and dairy free (Gluten Free) and added a Chinese marinade for the Jerky.” Pet-friendly treats for humans, too!

Yoke S Ranch (from Russell) put their NY Strip steaks on sale for $10/lb.

Dangood Gardens (from Johnston) is offering ‘Mother of Thousands’ houseplants along with two kinds of Japanese shiso (a culinary herb used in stir-fries or on sandwiches). 

Lee’s Greens (from Nevada) listed lettuce, spinach, baby red and green kale, arugula, potted herbs, and winter squash. Lee notes they’ll probably add some radishes and turnips later this week.

We had 186 members order 2,027 items this cycle. Total purchases were just over $12,000. The same cycle last year had purchases of just over $9,000, which means sales were about 30% higher. That’s right at our what we budgeted for growth. Nice, and thanks for your orders.

New items to add to your shopping list:


Butter Me Up! (from Marion) is our newest producer. They offer many varieties of almond, cashew, hazelnut, and peanut butter. Unique flavors include cappuccino peanut butter, dark chocolate hazelnut butter (like Nutella, but without any of the artificial flavor!), and white chocolate almond butter. Welcome aboard! We are very excited to have peanut butters made in Iowa!Daily Bread Bakery (from Algona) is offering a few specialty yeasted-loaf breads this season like Apple Cinnamon Swirl + Pumpkin Spice–these would be perfect with some almond butter!

Heart of Iowa Soapworks (from Gilbert) says ‘I made a batch of soap as a request from one of our farmers.  It’s a Dragon’s Blood & Amber blend. This smells really, really good! Like a sensual cologne. This is a masculine scent.’

Holdeman ABF Poultry (from Riceville) has several favorites back in stock: capon brats, capon breasts, honey + swiss capon sticks, and smoked capon breast. These always go fast!Lee’s Greens (from Nevada) listed all your fall favorites, from from greens to winter squash, including a rare variety known as ‘Giant Pink Banana Squash’. 

Salama Greenhouse (from Boone) added swiss chard to go along with their kale, spinach, tomatoes and fall mums.

Global Greens farmers with new stuff: Jacqueline Ndabazaniye (brilliant red ‘Curly Roja’ kale) and Angelique Hakuzimana (Dinosaur kale).

Purrfect Muttchies (from Truro) introduced a couple new treat varieties for your pet friends: Dandy Doggy Date Delights and Slobberlicious Sweet Potato Pistachio Pinwheels. Remember, all their treats are human-friendly too.

Hickory Hills Farm (from Moulton) has several grass-finished beef items including steaks and hamburgers, as well as pork brats and lard (their secret for the flakiest pie crust).

Wildwood Farms (from Wellsburg) wants you to get a head-start on holiday shopping with some of their handcrafted items (many from reclaimed Iowa materials) including a French-style rolling pin, wine bottle stopper, pens, and stylus. Don’t forget to pick up one of their hot cocoa mixes as well. 

Iowa Orchard (from Urbandale) introduced a new apple variety this cycle–Greening Apple, similar to Granny Smith, a tart green apple, perfect for cooking.

Wilted Leaf Farm (from Des Moines) listed carrot bunches and many fresh, leafy greens.

Yoke S Ranch (from Russell) still has their Corriente beef brisket on sale this cycle along with a new item, Corriente soup bones.

Country View Yogurt (from Hawkeye) now offers their Greek Blackberry Custard yogurt in a 3 lb tub! This is a new size in very limited quantities. They are also continuing their sale on 3 lb tubs @ $5 each – a real bargain!

Chris’ Custom Bakery (from Ankeny) updated their sugar cookie themes for fall–new options include fall leaves and football related shapes. These are intricately decorated and make a tremendous gift as well!

Zaza’s Pasta (from Iowa City) is back this cycle after taking off last cycle (for a well-deserved vacation). They’ve re-listed one of their fall seasonal flavors – Pumpkin Fettucinne.
